the beginning of her second year of life has been great so far! we celebrated her bday last weekend (for the 5th time? lol) and with another fabu cake made by Granma Penny who can go wrong? :)

to update on her physical development she is now 30 1/4 inches long and weighing in at 25 lbs 6 oz. she also has 6 teeth now - 2 up top and 3 below that are visible in the front, and one molar out up top on the right. there are a couple of other molars workin' their way through right now too...and she seems to be coping quite well with the discomfort of it all :)
to add to the teething fun poor thing has had a cold for about a week now, along with a very low temperature a few days...as always she's taking it all in stride...though I think she'd be a lot happier if she could only learn to blow that cute little nose!
funny story from the day of her actual bday: it was a beautiful blooming spring day so we headed out for a long walk. we admired lots of beauty flowers (sniffed lots of lovely lilacs) and the gorgeous green trees everywhere...soooooo nice to come back from ontario to such a lush environment with the aroma of fresh life all around us!
while walkin' under a tree a little inch worm landed on Sasha's nose. before I could reach it, she plucked it between her little fingers...and popped it into her mouth! Protein!
so...now I've let my kid eat dirt...and worms! LOL
Now that she's over a year I'm also back at work at Britannia community centre. Lovin' it! really good to be back amongst my co-workers and the public we serve. I'm happy it's part-time so I can still have lots of time with Sasha, and Mark (or her grandparents a this point) are spending time with her while I'm at work...so it's a great set up for now. I'll let you know when the novelty wears off... ;)
I did have a grieving period the other night for the loss of my ability to take shifts whenever I want them with no worry. As an auxiliary there is no such thing as stable hours...and stability would be a good thing now that we have Sasha! I also felt frustration at my procrastination on the whole child care thing. Lesson learned the hard way...I gotta stop doing that! teehee
One of the reasons I'm so proud to work at Britannia is for the amount of energy the folks around me put into helping the community be the best place it can be. I feel "The Drive" and the surrounding area are greatly benefited by the team in this community hub and the services we are able to provide
One fabu event held at Brit is the Stone Soup Festival which is all about bringing community together to celebrate food and each other. Yesterday was another beautiful sunny day...perfect for lots of outdoor music, food, info and shopping from local artists, gardeners and other creative folk.
Below is a pic of Sasha who was fascinated by the youth marimba band we danced to (here I remember that she is in particular awe of the super solo by the drummer...too bad Mark didn't get a pic of the group for all to see). Also is a pic of our friend Darcy who was singin' songs and storytelling for the kids...and as you can see he is also skilled at playing 2 recorders through his nose at once! LOL :) The beans are yin-yang beans we're going to plant (picked up from the Vancouver Native Health Society table)...and I just think they look really cool so wanted to show you!
