terrific tot turns 2!

this post is long over due...sorry to those of you who have been patiently waiting for the update! this one is full of pics...and even a couple of videos...to make it up to you ;)

we celebrated the 2nd birthday of our adorable tot with a small play day, the weekend after her bday. a puppet theatre to play with and decorate, a tinkle trunk of costumes to dress up, music and cake...turned out to be plenty to tucker her out for nap time. teehee. see previous post for pics of the theatre and fun Sasha enjoyed :)

she ended up having 3 cakes lucky girl. "Cake" is now one of her favorite words. hahahaha! here are a few more pics from her bday below: eating Granma's cake, presenting her party cake, dancing to the abc's with her new alphabet magnets -sooooo funny!, and running with her balloons.

due to both of us working she spent her actual bday at Tina's and had cake and fun with the kids. A few days ago actually turned out to be Sasha's last day with Tina! When I found out a space was available at the Mt. Pleasant child care for June 1st, we decided to jump on it. Sasha's experience with Tina has been a positive one, and we are thankful that her entry into child care was easy and in a nice home with a kind care giver. But I am stoked for Sasha to experience Mt. Pleasant as it is an environment she is gonna LOVE...especially their awesome outside play space...they may never get her back inside once they let her out!

It's full time care that will have us penny pinching for a while (a very long while)...but I will finally have the time to committ to the documentary that I have been struggling to find. words can't express how much of a stress reliever this is for me! The best thing is that the child care is such a great environment, and Sasha really enjoyed her sneak peek yesterday. It's only 5 blocks from home, so very convenient. Tanya's son Nolan also goes to the same child care...our kids just might get sick of each other ;)

here's a couple of pics of Che playing with Sasha and Nolan the other day...they love him to bits!

here's the long-story-short to update what's happening with her eyes: we had a follow up a few weeks ago with the assistant to Dr. Kennedy, and she felt that the right eye isn't progressing far enough after 2 1/2 months. She thought at the very least we will have to upgrade the prescription to her glasses. she seems to have adjusted to the original prescription and it is no longer making a big difference that the glasses are on all day. worst case scenario will be a day surgery on the muscles of her eye to re-align them. I didn't felt this was needed quite yet. when we cover her left eye, her right eye automatically comes in line, so we figured the patching and increase in strength of lenses might do the trick. however, we met again with Dr. K (who we haven't seen since our 1st eye appointment) a couple of weeks ago to see what he had to say.

he concurred that she would need new lenses at minimum. it seems she had adjusted to the first prescription, and indeed seemed a bit more far sighted from the original appointment. He did not agree that patching would do the trick for the muscle alignment though. He said once she had her new glasses we were to follow up with him after a week. If she is still turning her right eye in when she tries to focus, it is his view that the day surgery procedure to correct the muscles would be necessary.

we only just got her new lenses today (another long story. grrrrrr. bad optomistrists and a mad rush to find new lenses on short notice) so we will follow up with Dr. K in a week. She is already turning her right eye in a bit, so we're prepping our minds for helping Sasha recover from another 'common' procedure in the near future. we'll keep you posted on this when there is more to know.

what else new to say about life at 2...here's her home. she likes to walk the wall outside - and every other wall in the 'hood! lol. and our co-op complex becomes ever more beautiful as it continues to bloom. we are very happy here and now that the sun is becoming a more frequent visitor we see folks outside more and more...tons of fun for Sasha that we run into kids every where we go :)

these 2 pics show our place from the back (furthest away street view) and front (that's our open door on the left). it's a great townhouse style suite. we love our patio too...an abundance of zucchini to look forward to! (though Che would rather see that crop dissappear. teehee)

to say Sasha has mastered the art of the toddler tantrum is an understatement, but she balances her stubborn shrieks (which still don't work) with polite and happy chatter most of the day. her vocabulary has exploded and is catching up with her comprehension quickly. our favorite phrase (other than 'i love you'...easily the hands down fave for every parent isn't it?) is "c'mon dude!" LOL!

last we measured she was 33 inches tall already (that was a few weeks before her bday). she's wearing size 8 shoes...going on 8 1/2.

inside and out we always have fun! below are some pics of Sasha feelin' happy and you know it while climbing and hangin out at her favorite park; testing out some intruments at the Rhizome Cafe (every sunday they have a family night - including a monthly family disco we want to check out - and the night we went it was a world music theme with dozens of cool intrsuments for the kids to try out); playing dress up with the noses and costumes Grandma brought over; putzing on the patio; painting, playing in a blanket fort and enjoying her water play time.

after more than 2 1/2 years of posting to this blog, and abundance of words and pictures...it turns out I've only used up about 9% of my allowed space!! yikes! so...I'm gonna add a short video now and then for you too. for starters: dancing to the abc magnets and "ready dad!" enjoy :)

we're off to Ontario for the next couple of weeks...check back early June for next update...

how to make a puppet theatre

lookin for a fun family project? have a bunch of puppets that need an outlet for their creativity too...such as a puppet theatre?
here's what we did to provide space for Sasha and her puppets to perform
1: cut up a wardrobe box. test the room availability for puppeteers
2: prime the box (not the floor)
3: add curtains (just happened to have a single panel that has moved around with us over the years...finally has a purpose)
4: invite some kids over to add flourishes of paint
5: find a puppeteer. first show "Louis Phillipe meets mr. pig"
6: final show for the day...Happy Birthday to Sasha!
