One of the best memories from this summer will be the day we played at the Jones Park Family Fun day...and another MC gig for me in our old neighbourhood! yay! Check out the before and after of Sasha on the whale at one year and just over 3 years...
It was another great event for the community with great music from Reggae Rising and other up and coming talent Cory Mae Omega and Blenheim St Project, along with other local faves the Hawaiian dancers and the awe-some capoeira folks. We had a super time catching up in Brad and Virginia's backyard (I love the pic tha Sasha got of Brad!) Though we had no backyard fire to gather around this year, I totally loved the amazing thunderstorms (the longest ever since I moved here) and the crazy orange sky to finish was brilliant end to the glowing day!
We have finally all got bikes now...even more family fun now that we can ride around on the seawalls (for starters anyway, hehe). Mark and I both got our bikes from Our Community Bikes on Main St, and I have to say I was thrilled with the service and am so happy with my new ride! wheeeeeeee!
Sasha is too tall for most bike seats, and is the right height for the trail-a-bike which we got second hand...then we had our first test ride as a mobile family unit and rode the seawall to Granville Island for dinner. With ice cream on the way home of course!!
Another treat for us was a faboo bbq at Shannon's and the adorable finger puppets knitted by Kirsten for Sasha...look! its a mini and very adorable Sasha puppet! so wicked cool :D
And her new fave game to play is using all of her finger puppets for role playing fun and a whole new use for little kitchen. lol
I've been working a ton between the pool, the info centre and the museum. All are good, and I'm now feeling a bit settled in the new groove of juggling the 3 hats. Around all the extra hours I have to say we've also had plenty of fun around the home and garden:
We finally took on a project we've been talking about forever...a fountain for our patio! Here are the pics of the transformation of one little corner of our outside space (and Sasha playing with water features at home depot while we picked up the last of our supplies) over the course of two weekends:
Other summer adventures include: taking advantage of my tourism privilege pass with a ferry ride to Granville Island for water park and playground, dinner and ferry home; lunch at Lions Den with Granma; lunch at Foundation; and we went to Trout Lake for Latin Summer Fest...and some fun in the water for the naked nellie after she fell in and got soaked, hehe.
Random shots from a lunchtime walking journey to Granville Island and back one day working at the museum. I'm loving exploring the other side of town and the waterfront!
I'm quite surprised to see, in retrospect, just how often I've been to Granville Island lately. (foot, ferry and bike - check) All of the sudden it seems so central and convenient for a nice lunch break alternative, and an easy exploration getaway for our family. And speaking of getaways... now I'm looking forward to more summer adventures to come! With the next 2 weeks off for family fun we are heading off to a couple of different islands away from the city - 12 days unplugged on Saltspring and Mayne ...yeepa!!
